After getting made redundant 7 years ago and losing our home I started up a garage door installation company with my wife in St Annes near Blackpool. I had never been involved in this type of business before but was given training and guidance from a true friend for which I will be eternally grateful. We started running the business from a rented flat and placed a small ad in Yellow Pages. Over the next few years we steadily built the business up to a much larger operation and we were successful enough to purchase a nice home again.
On many occasions when fitting a new up to date garage door for a customer many of the adjoining properties would enquire about the cost of replacing their garage door but once given a price which was on average £700+ they would say the price was prohibitive because their door was in perfect working order but was outdated in its looks and required painting annually. I often thought of this as a huge market for a purely cosmetic makeover. Over the next couple of years I worked on building prototypes and developing an extremely lightweight and easy to fit doorskin and eventually came up with a product which took less than 30 minutes to fit and at a fraction of the cost of a new door completely updates and transforms 90% of standard garage doors. With the help of one of Manchester's leading Patent Attorney Practices we have now secured a detailed patent application to protect this revolutionary new product.
We have also spent many months searching out a manufacturer that could produce this product competitively and obtained exclusivity with that company. A great deal of investment was put in by our company to develop and pay for moulds and machinery to produce these skins. We did a pilot scheme and advertised this service in the 2009/2010 Preston Yellow Pages. It has been a tremendous success and our fitting team are working to capacity every day. Because of the investment we have put into developing this idea and because of the huge size of this new market we have decided to distribute the product through a network of appointed agents, and we have decided to offer certain geographical areas. This is a genuine new and completely untapped market, the selected appointed representatives will not be competing with any established garage door companies. As these companies are only involved in the replacement of completely worn out garage doors which are only a tiny fraction of the actual doors that exist throughout the country.

90% of the people that have a garage door on their property do not need a new one as theirs is in good working order but they would love to update their property with a modern, maintenance free GRP makeover, if the price was affordable to them.
This is a completely new idea and can be easily done by anybody with reasonable DIY skills and does not come with any of the associated installation problems that are often encountered by garage door companies when fitting a new garage door.

An average new garage door can take between 2 and 6 hours to fit and many problems are encountered because of poor brickwork or timber frames on many garages and it is a job that can only be competently carried out by highly trained professionals. This new product does not involve any messy or long winded installation and can be easily completed within 30 minutes and because of the skins ultra light weight it does not interfere with the balance of the door as they only weigh as much as a few coats of paint. This new business opportunity is perfectly suited for a husband and wife team as myself and my wife have proved. My wife deals with all the sales side of the business and I fit the product to the garage doors, and have now managed to employ many fitters. This new product can easily be fitted by one man and your sales potential is only limited by how many hours and days in a week you would like to work. It is a product which once you have fitted your initial unit the sales propel themselves because of the kerb appeal and because of neighbours interest in updating their doors due to the low price, and wide variety of styles and colours to suit every taste.
